Community Free Democrats (CFD) is one of the oldest, strongest, and most influential reform Democratic clubs in Manhattan. Founded in 1969, CFD emerged out of the anti-war movement and the reform movement within the Democratic Party. The club’s political districts are the 67th and 69th Assembly Districts (AD’s). Anyone over 12 years of age residing in the area bounded by 59th Street and 125th Street, Central Park West/Frederick Douglass Boulevard, or in the 67th or 69th AD’s are eligible to be a Voting Member.
CFD serves the political needs of the Upper West Side by promoting and organizing progressive opinion on local, state and national issues, as well as supporting Democratic candidates dedicated to peace, progress and social justice.
Many New York political leaders come out of CFD, including Congressman Jerrold Nadler (club founder), New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, and Assembly Member Linda B. Rosenthal.
The Democratic party leaders of CFD include District Leaders Marc Landis of the 67th Assembly District, Part C. Vincent Alfonso, Democratic State Committee Member of the 67th Assembly District, and Joan Paylo and Nick Prigo, District Leaders for the 69th Assembly District, Part B.
CFD is always growing and advocating for progressive issues and candidates. If these are your values please join us!
